Bricks from Industrial Wastes

Recently I visited CSIR technofest 2010 showcased by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi, at India International Trade Fair in New Delhi, the Capital of India.  In this technofest, I have seen a technology “Bricks from Industrial Wastes” which was developed by CBRI (Central Building Research Institute), Roorkee under the aegis of CSIR, New Delhi, India.

Generally we know the bricks will be used in building industry.  In this technology, bricks are making from plastic clay, fly ash from industries like thermal electricity or other industries and coal.  This technology is cost effective and affordable.

Clay fly ash bricks and fly ash bricks will make from improved brick technologies. Bricks are making from inferior soils and agro industrial wastes. Bulk utilization of fly ash is for wasteland development and agriculture.

CBRI Technology is for pollution control in brick kilns.

Energy/coal can be saved in firing upto 30% as compared to traditionally clay bricks. Waste utilization helps in disposable of waste (flyash) which poses a serious threat to environment and ecology. Know-how has already been transferred to several parties on sponsored/consultancy basis. Technology is already in production.

Estimated investment for a plant of 30,000 bricks per day capacity for manual process is Ra.15 lakhs and semi mechanized process is Rs.75 lakhs.  Process know-how, raw materials specifications, process demonstration, training at site and laboratory will be given by CBRI, Roorkee.

Fly ash bricks have many advantages

-Fly ash bricks have more compressive strength than conventional clay bricks
-More resistant to salinity and water than conventional bricks
-More lighter than conventional bricks
-Uniform in shape & size and more durable as strength increases with passage of time
-Less mortar consumption in masonry & saving in plastering cost.

This reduces the building construction cost.

A lot of people are not aware that the air conditioner units from the brand Toshiba have long been recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly; in addition to this, a lot of people have also already attested to the fact that a particular air conditioner unit bought from Toshiba is surely powerful and can really give the users satisfying feeling. The fact that this particular brand has been in the industry for over 30 long years now, a lot of people are already comfortable with buying products that they are offering when it comes to air conditioners.

The good thing about this particular brand or company is that they are truly taking into consideration how their users will feel like even during the harshest weather conditions. Because of this, they really take their time into building a particular air conditioner unit that they have to be able to fully satisfy the needs of the users.

In addition to giving people the best quality of performance, the users should not worry too much about the cost of the electricity that they need to pay for in the end because the air conditioners from Toshiba are able to preserve and minimize the amount of energy that they will use up in the process of using them. Only a few brands are able to do this at this point in the market; this is practically the reason why people are not thinking twice if they should stick to the products of Toshiba or not. Because a lot of people have become so dependent on the benefits that technology is able to give them, they get truly amazed by this feature that Toshiba air conditioners are capable of letting them experience.

Removing black mold from non-porous materials can be tough. Non-porous items include anything made of metal, glass, and hard plastic for example. Getting black mold out of these areas can be very difficult unless you know the necessary steps to tackle mold removal in a safe way. There are some basic techniques to follow when removing mold from these surfaces.

In order to get mold out of various surfaces, it is important to first obtain proper protective gear. You should check to make sure you have all the necessary protection before you start, such as goggles and a disposable outfit which you can wear during the cleaning.

The first step is to wet the moldy area with water and soap spray. This stops the mold from continuing to spread through the air, which it will do if you do not spray it first. Then, you can use a vacuum to suck away remaining mold spores from the affected area and any surfaces close by which might also be affected by mold spores.

Next, you want to be sure to rinse all areas where you have scrubbed. You can use a wet-dry vac if necessary if too much water has collected. You should then take some bleach and water and apply it to the surface where containing the black mold. Warning: do not mix bleach and ammonia! This can lead to a deadly combination of gases. Make sure you follow the instructions on your cleaning ingredients labels.

You will probably have to leave the solution on the affected area for 6-8 hours or thereabouts. It should be able to dry on its own. You can also use fans, dehumidifiers, and any other type of air circulation device to let the area dry as quickly as possible.

It is important to note, however, that it is very important to let the mold dry; otherwise, it will reproduce. Every mold spore must have a chance to be completely wiped out to prevent it from coming back at any further date. Once the entire contaminated area has been scrubbed away, it should be okay to start using the previously affected room again for any usual purposes.

Ultimately, black mold removal must be done with care and caution. You must ensure that every surface which has been affected is thoroughly cleaned. If it is not, you run the risk of mold returning which can cause serious health problems, as mold is a deadly substance and can create huge issues for any house or building which is affected by it.

Be sure to properly protect yourself when cleaning non-porous materials or any other household surfaces while you remove mold, both to prevent damage from the mold itself and from the chemicals you use to clean it away. This is very important to ensure good safety and preventative measures for mold removal and permanent care and treatment of the moldy spots.

The easiest method of black mold removal from porous materials is to simply throw away the infected object. A carpet that has developed the typical symptoms of mold, such as black or dark green spots should be thrown away because it could spread mold spores to other areas of the house. Books or files that are infected should also be thrown away or left under the sun for a good while. Sunlight can kill the black mold quite effectively by drying out the moisture that fungi need in order to grow. Bigger items such as mattresses should be thrown away since disinfecting it would be a difficult process.

When black mold has taken root in porous materials such as wood and concrete you will need to take a different approach. A professional would first find out the exact spot where the infection has occurred and would then remove portions of the wall or floor to get to the mold spores. Next, they would remove any dark or discolored portions of the wall so as to eliminate the contaminated area completely. A strong disinfectant should then be used on the area. This is the best way to go about eliminating mold that has penetrated deep into porous materials.

Another way of removing black mold from porous materials is by using a strong disinfectant such as borax powder. When mixed with water, it will penetrate any porous material, killing the spores and destroying their roots. It is best to pour one glass of borax into one gallon of water, stirring until the powder is completely dissolved. Before cleaning the affected area you should take certain precautions such as wearing donning gloves and a face mask. The spores of the fungus are tiny filaments that can move easily with any air currents created by your movements. Because of this, it is important to close all doors and windows while you are cleaning and disinfecting the area, so as not to allow the spores to spread to other rooms.

Before you begin scrubbing the contaminated area, you should first moisten it with a few sprays of water to reduce the chance of mold spores becoming airborne. The next step is to clean the area with a detergent and a strong brush, concentrating on any crevices or fractures that can harbor fungi. Once this is done you can begin disinfecting the area. To do this, pour the borax and water mixture onto the infected area, making sure the entire area is covered. The borax will penetrate deep into the porous material, killing the roots and making the area inhabitable by other fungi. Repeat this black mold removal process a few days later in order to prevent any recurrence of the infection.

Baking soda and water can also be used effectively against the roots of the spores. Similar to the borax and water method, baking soda should be dissolved in water and poured or sprayed onto the affected area. Concrete and other porous materials can be treated effectively in this way, protecting the area with the residues left during the cleansing process.
