The Challenge:

A QC Software customer decided to combine two business units into one order fulfillment center to eliminate duplicate inventory and improve productivity. As a leading producer and international distributor of outdoor power tools, the firm has a high volume operation with diverse inventory. The challenge was to automate existing operations, from a manual paper-picking system to a real-time inventory and order tracking system.

The Solution:

QC Software relied on Motorola’s Symbol mobile scanners/computers to accurately and efficiently capture bar code data and direct the picking operation. Scanners now provide operators with instant inventory and order updates, and confirm that the picked items are correct.

As inventory is scanned, the information is automatically updated in the system. The customer eliminated the inefficiencies inherent in manual data entry, including improper data entry due to human error and mis-picks due to stocking mistakes. With manual data entry, operators completed the paperwork and then handed it to the data entry operator at the end of the shift. Operators now have a paperless system with access to real-time data.
